Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How much is the cost of fuel?
A. The price of AvGas fluctuates regularly and varies between airports. As a general reference, and considering proper leaning techniques, our aircraft fuel burn is as follows:
Cessna 150 - 5 USG (19 Litres) per hour
Cessna 172 - 8 USG (31 Litres) per hour
Members are reminded to properly lean the mixture, considering safety and weather conditions to ensure the most economical fuel consumption. Additionally it is encouraged to plan/call FBOs when possible to find the most up-to-date information on fuel costs, ramp fees and fueling/parking services.
Q. Are there any other fees aside from membership, fuel, and rental?
A. Additional fees that may be incurred include landing or ramp fees which members are responsible for. For the latest landing fees, you can contact us or consult the respective airport authority.
Q. Is the membership fee valid for one year from when I sign up or is it pro-rated for the calendar year?
A. Great question. Your membership is valid from the day of signing until the first day of the 13th month from the date you signed up. So say you sign up on July 2nd of current year, then your membership will be valid until August 1st of the following year!
Q. What does TAK Aviation do with the money generated from rentals etc?
A. All revenue is reinvested directly into the club to a) support the operation and b) finance/budget future improvements and upgrades.
The improvements and upgrade include but not limited to the following:
- Interior and upholstery upgrades
- Installation of 406 ELT units on all aircraft
- Upgrading the avionics and ADS-B transponders for all aircraft
- Funding for a new hangar
- Painting the aircraft for a consistent professional look
We’ll continue to keep members informed of exciting new updates as they happen.
Q. Is there a time limit for my block of hours to be completed by?
A. Yes. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, at which point the members may receive an extension to their block-hours limit, the following provisions apply:
- Members purchasing a 10 or 30-hr blocks shall complete their blocks within 6-months from purchase
- Members purchasing a 50 or 100-hr blocks shall complete their blocks within one year from purchase
Q. How do I sign up and get started?
A. In order to sign up and start flying our aircraft, you'd have to do the following:
- Send us an e-mail and indicate what size block of hours do you require on what aircraft and at which base
- Provide us with your legal name, address, contact information for invoicing
- Provide the payment for your purchase
- Complete the Open Book Exam, Rental Agreement
- Complete an aircraft checkout with one of our check pilots
- Upon successful completion of the checkout, you'll be added to our scheduling software and group chat and you can then start flying!
Q. What if the airplane breaks down when away from base?
A. If the aircraft has a mechanical issue away from base, it will be dealt with on a case by case basis. If we are unable to source our own mechanic, we may ask the member to pay for the repairs at a local shop and then we'll reimburse the member.
If after discussion and investigation from our team, it is found that the mechanical issue was due to negligence or exceeding operational limitation(s) by the member, at that point the member will be held liable.
Q. Can I take the airplane on a long-distance cross country flight or on overnight trips?
A. Yes and yes! This is the whole point of having a flying club and we are happy to see individuals fly our airplanes to far and fun destinations. We require a minimum one-week notice if you're looking to have a multi-day booking. We also ask members to be fair and understand that multi-day bookings might be hard to coordinate during the busy summer months where many members want to fly.
Q. How do I book an airplane or check availability?
A. All members will be added to our scheduling software, Flight Schedule Pro (FSP). Members will need to sign-up and create a profile on FSP and after that they'll be able to access the aircraft schedule and check availability.
Q. What if I decide that I no longer want to be a part of the club, do I get my money back?
A. Obviously we'd be sad to see our members leave the club. However, if someone decides to leave the club, there are a few provisions to consider:
- We'll be providing that member with a refund of what is left of their block only within six months of signing up.
- Once it's past six months from signing up with the club, regardless of the flying hours completed, the fees are non-refundable.
- Unfortunately the cost of membership is non-refundable. Once signed up, regardless of having flown or not, the membership fee will not be paid back as the fee is used to support the admin and onboarding costs for the member.
